Information for Parents/Carers:

🍁 How can we enjoy the books at home?

There is no single right way to enjoy a book. Every child is different. We encourage families to use a mixture of approaches that help their child feel confident, successful and excited about reading.

📖 Independent Reading
Encourage your child to read independently when they feel confident and comfortable doing so. Give them time to become absorbed in the book and enjoy reading at their own pace.

👨‍👩‍👧 Shared Reading
Why not read together? You might take turns reading a page, paragraph or chapter, or simply enjoy discussing the text together. Shared reading is a lovely opportunity to talk about unfamiliar vocabulary, interesting characters and what might happen next.

🗣️ Modelling Reading
Sometimes, your child may benefit from hearing you read aloud to them. Modelling reading allows children to hear how an experienced reader uses expression, pace and intonation. It is also a wonderful way to enjoy a more challenging book together.

🍂 Most importantly...

Please use your knowledge of your child to decide which approach, or combination of approaches, works best for them. At school, we will also use our knowledge of the children to enable success for all, making appropriate adaptations.

The Bronze Reading Challenge should encourage a love of reading. Whether your child is reading independently, sharing the reading with you or listening as you model excellent reading, we would love children and families to talk about books, share stories and enjoy reading together. 📚❤️

🍂 Ready, set… READ! 📚
