As you will all be aware, the NEU announced that their teachers will strike over pay in England and Wales on a number of days in February and March 2023. The remaining dates for this action in Birmingham, and at Harborne Primary School, are Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March 2023.

Following this announcement, I wanted to inform you that Harborne Primary School will be closed to pupils in the following year groups on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March 2023 due to the absence of teaching staff:

Reception

Year 1

Year 2

Year 3

Year 4

Year 5

The school will, however, be open to all pupils in Year 6, who should come to school as normal on both days.

The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over pay and funding. Our school will always be committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our pupils and delivering a high quality education for all.

If your child is eligible for Free School Meals and you would like us to provide a packed lunch that can be collected from school between 12:00 and 12:30 on Wednesday and Thursday, please click here. Please note this is different to the Universal Free School meals available to all Reception and KS1 children.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact a member of SLT.

The following is from the email to all families sent out this morning:

The school will remain open to pupils today.

However, if families wish to collect their children early, they can do so between 1:30 and 1:45 this afternoon. Families should collect their child from the usual place on the school site. The adult supervising the children will bring them to their door or exit point and dismiss them as usual. We are very happy to keep any remaining children until the end of the normal school day. As a result of the weather and early collection opportunity, we have taken the decision to cancel Year 4 swimming this afternoon.

Year 6 children who usually walk home will be kept on site until 3:30, unless parents themselves come to collect at 1:30.

ASC at both sites and 108 club will close today at 4:30 to give families and staff members the best chance to get home as safely as possible. A separate email has been sent to these families.

Best wishes.

Duncan Wilson

(Acting Head)

On the afternoon of Thursday, 24th November the school will be holding a Futures Day.

Parents/carers are invited to come into school to talk to the children for approximately 20 minutes about their jobs, the qualifications necessary and the pros and cons of doing the job they do. In KS1 parents will be asked to talk to the class their child is in.

In KS2, the children will be asked to sign up to attend the talks they are particularly interested in. It may be that parents/carers are asked to present their talk a couple of times through the afternoon to an audience of approximately 20 or so children.

We are especially interested in hearing from parents who consider that they challenge stereotypes by working in their chosen capacity. All parents will be accompanied by a member of staff throughout their visit in school.

We will soon be asking for volunteers for this exciting school event so please keep an eye on your emails and the school website!

Dear families,

Harborne Primary School Parents’ Evenings: 4:00 – 6:00pm, Tuesday 8th March or Thursday 10th March

I would like to invite you to attend our Parents’ Evening on Tuesday 8th March or Thursday 10th March. This is an important meeting with your child’s teacher and provides you with an opportunity to look at your child’s books and discuss how well they are progressing.

Parents are invited into school for these meetings. If, however, we are experiencing high numbers of positive cases in school at the beginning of March, we will not be postponing the date again. In this instance, we will be forced to conduct the evenings virtually and parents will be alerted to this by email. We very much hope that this will not be necessary, as we feel it is so important for parents to be able to come in and see their children’s work and have a face-to-face conversation with their child’s teacher. If we are able to go ahead face-to-face please feel free to arrive at school ten minutes before your allotted meeting with the teacher in order to look through your child's books.

Appointments can be booked using School Cloud, our online appointment booking system. This allows you to choose your own appointment times with teachers and you will receive an email confirming your appointments. If you experience difficulties in using the system, please email technicalsupport@harborne.bham.sch.uk and a member of our support team will be in touch.

The appointment booking system will be open from Thursday 17th February and will close at midnight on Sunday 6th March. Should you wish to make any changes after this date please contact your child's classteacher.

Please visit https://harborneprimary.schoolcloud.co.uk to book your appointments. (A short guide on how to add appointments is available on the website and is attached to this email. There is also a brief video explaining the process in the Latest News section of the school website).

Login with the following information: your title, first name and surname and the email address that the system should use to inform you of your appointments. Then,

Student’s First Name

Student’s Surname

Student’s Class

These details need to match the data held centrally by the school.

Yours sincerely,

Duncan Wilson
Deputy Head
